Job Description:
Residential Youth Counselors ensure that youth feel safe in the
program and provide transportation to meet medical, educational and
legal needs. They motivate and engage the youth to identify and
complete personal goals and are responsible for modeling and
teaching healthy communication and daily living skills. The Youth
Haven program follows all minimum licensing requirements as well as
adhering to all relevant COA standards to ensure the highest
quality of care for youth in theGeneral Tasks 1. Maintain a
comfortable living environment2. Model pleasant, positive
non-judgmental attitude. 3. Demonstrate self-control in stressful
situations. 4. Use preventative as opposed to reactive floor
management skills. 5. Always remain visible and available to youth.
6. Assist in planning a wide range of recreational activities.
Occasionally be available for extended recreational outings. 7.
Develop plans with youth for constructive use of free
time.Supervision and Monitoring Expectations 1. Responsible for the
supervision and monitoring of all youth in the program and to be
always aware of their whereabouts. 2. Always document the
whereabouts of all youth. 3. Monitor youths' health and behavior.
Arrange medical, counseling and other appointments as assigned. 4.
Transport and accompany youth to appointments as assigned. 5.
Report any known or suspected abuse, exploitation or neglect of
youth in consultation with management to Child Protective Services.
6. Assist the Program Supervisor in training volunteers, interns
and relief staff in the completion of their dutiesHousekeeping
Tasks 1. Take initiative for supervision and assisting youth in
completing allowance chores and household tasks. 2. Demonstrate
concern and pride in the environment. 3. Create clean and pleasant
surroundings. Encourage safe and careful treatment of all program
property. 4. Maintain linen, toiletry and clothing items. Teach,
encourage and model age-appropriate personal hygiene. 5. Prepare
meals and snacks as necessary. Encourage appropriate table manners
and conversation. 6. Maintain prescribed medications in a secure
area and dispense as instructed. 7. Assist youth with school
assignments. JOB REQUIREMENTS A. Education and Experience 1.
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or Social Sciences is preferred.
High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. 2. Minimum of
one year's full-time experience working or volunteering with youth.
3. Experience working with homeless youth and/or youth that are
involved in the foster care system preferred. B. Additional
Requirements 1. Must satisfactorily pass criminal history check 2.
Must satisfactorily pass tuberculosis (TB) test within the past
year. 3. Must successfully complete the following health
certification requirements within 30 days of employment: Food
Handler's, CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens training. 4.
Must have a valid Washington State driver's license or be able to
obtain one by date of employment. 5. Employees and volunteers who
operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth
business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of
Youth.6. Must be 21 years of age or older.Compensation details:
