Institute for Disease Modeling (IDM) Product Discovery &
Development (PDD) Team are to model the upstream process from
early-stage discovery to product development, while simultaneously
connecting to downstream epidemiologic models, to better inform the
key elements that influence a product's potential public health
value. PDD modeling efforts connect divergent scales of biological
and epidemiological function through multi-scale modeling. Through
rigorous methodological development and application and in close
partnership with program strategy teams, PDD enables greater
learning, hypothesis testing, and ultimately decision making to

Friday, October 25, 2024Your RoleThe Senior Research Scientist will
develop and maintain initiatives in the product discovery research
landscape at IDM, which includes the vaginal and gut microbiome,
STI prevention and treatment, and broader frameworks for
considering the immune system, viral evolution, and drug
resistance. The candidate will interface with internal program
strategy teams as well as external partners in the development and
application of novel modeling approaches.What You'll Do
- Apply quantitative research, mathematical and statistical
modeling approaches to PDD questions
- Contribute to the development of novel models to evaluate the
key levers of impact for early stage product discovery
- Adapt knowledge, ideas, and research methodology from different
disciplines to develop innovative approaches to longstanding
challenges in the field of global health and clearly communicate
sophisticated research methods to diverse audiences
- Develop new disease transmission models or model features as
needed, identify and utilize existing models where appropriate
- Explore novel datasets, link to key insights and model
structure
- Calibrate dynamic models to location-specific data
- Interface with BMGF counterparts to ensure strategic impact of
work
- Publish work in the scientific communityYour Experience
- PhD in a quantitative field (e.g. Computational Modeling,
Health Policy Analysis, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science,
Statistics, Computational Biology).
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language.
- Knowledge of at least one: vaginal microbiome, gut microbiome,
STIs, respiratory pathogens, viral evolution, drug resistance,
immunology.
- Theoretical and computational methods in statistics, computer
science, dynamical systems, mathematics, and modeling.
- Eagerness to learn to communicate diverse and technical work to
partners
- Demonstrated ability to work productively independently and as
part of a team
- Attention to detail and high standard for quality of work
product.
- Experience working on collaborative projects, with significant
software components.
- Ability to initiate, organize, and manage research projects and
clearly communicate analysis results to diverse audiences
- Must be highly inquisitive, self-motivated and results

range for this role is $204,600 to $317,100 USD. We recognize
high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where
our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations
is $222,900 to $345,500 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we
strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires
salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary
range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a
candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as
