Services to join their team.The Husky Union Building (HUB) serves
as the center of the UW community life, enhancing the student
experience through a variety of cultural, educational, social, and
recreational programs. The HUB is a student-centered organization
that values participatory decision-making and offers first-hand
experience in citizenship, leadership, and social
responsibility.POSITION PURPOSEThe Student Activities Office (SAO)
Advisor provides advice and guidance to student government entities
and Registered Student Organization (RSO) members regarding
leadership, event planning, and management. The SAO Advisor
provides coaching, counseling, and guidance to students with
diverse academic, social, political, and cultural
perspectives.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAdvise Student Government
and Student Organizations - 90%
- Serve as primary advisor for assigned Associated Students of
the University of Washington (ASUW) and Graduate and Professional
Student Senate (GPSS) officers and employees.
- Serve as advisor for assigned Registered Student Organizations,
usually based on RSO type.
- Assist students with planning, budgeting, promotions,
execution, management, and assessment of RSO-hosted events.
- Monitor and advise student government program directors and
RSOs regarding day-to-day operations.
- Serve as a primary liaison between RSOs/ASUW/GPSS entities and
campus staff.
- Monitor budgets and expenditures for assigned groups.
- Maintain and update historical records and files related to
assigned committees and programs.
- Advise Assistant Director on emerging and ongoing issues among
student organizations.
- Monitor compliance with University and state policies and
regulations.Administration and Communication - 10%
- Educate a diverse audience on SAO operations and
protocols.
- Coordinate and/or assist a variety of HUB and campus-wide
facility sponsored events.
- Serve on HUB and University committees, workgroups, and
taskforces as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITYThe advisor is
an active member of the SAO team, collaborating with other
departments on campus and frequently interacting with
students.POSITION COMPLEXITIESCandidates will possess knowledge of
student development, student activities best practices, and
personnel management.SUPERVISIONThis position reports to one of the
two Assistant Directors in SAO.SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIESNoneWORKING CONDITIONSThis is an overtime eligible
position with evening and weekend hours as necessary. Schedule can
be flexible and allows hybrid/work from home up to 8 hours (1 day)
per week.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related
field; or 1 year related experience in Higher Education, College
Unions/Student Activities, Non-profit Management, or related
field.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working with student organizations or advising
students.
- Interpersonal, problem-solving, and customer service
skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years' related experience in Higher Education, College
Unions/Student Activities, Non-profit Management, or related
field.
- Experience with event planning and management.
- Experience working directly with student leaders and/or student
