Providence caregiver, you'll apply your specialized training to
deliver world-class health with human connection and make a
difference every day through your extraordinary care. The Clinical
Decision Unit (CDU), is now recognized by our dedicated staff as a
vibrant and dynamic unit that offers a unique blend of patient care
experiences. The CDU is strategically divided into four distinct
zones, essentially functioning as four units in one. These zones
include:
- Cardiac and Neuro Stepdown : This area provides specialized
care for patients recovering from cardiac events, such as
post-cardiac catheterizations and those requiring cardiac drips, as
well as patients with neurological conditions who need close
monitoring.
- Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg) : This zone caters to a wide
variety of medical and surgical patients, offering a diverse array
of clinical experiences and opportunities for skill development in
general patient care.
- Medical/Telemetry (Med/Tele) : In this section, patients
requiring continuous cardiac monitoring are treated. This includes
those with chronic conditions and those recovering from acute
medical events that necessitate close observation.
- Observation : This area is designated for patients admitted
from the Emergency Department for 24-hour observation or further
evaluation to determine the need for full admission. This zone
operates with a high patient turnover, ensuring a dynamic and
fast-paced environment. Staffing and Patient Ratios
- The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, with Observation
occasionally extending to 1:5 depending on patient acuity.
- The unit is supported by three Certified Nursing Assistants
(CNAs) who provide essential patient care and assistance. Unit
Culture and Environment The CDU is characterized by a fast-paced,
high-energy environment that demands adaptability and efficiency
from its staff. Despite the demanding nature of the unit, the
culture among the staff is described as having a true family vibe,
fostering a supportive and collaborative atmosphere where teamwork
is paramount. Unique Opportunities The hybrid nature of the CDU
offers nurses a unique opportunity to gain experience across
various specialties within one unit. With its larger capacity of
approximately 50 beds, compared to our standard Med/Surg floors
with just under 30 beds, the MACU provides an excellent setting for
nurses to encounter and manage a broad spectrum of patient
populations. The frequent admits and discharges contribute to a
dynamic workflow, presenting continuous learning opportunities and
professional growth. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a
new nurse eager to expand your clinical skills, the CDU offers a
challenging yet rewarding environment where you can thrive and
develop your nursing expertise. Required qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Upon hire: Washington Registered Nurse License
